About

The Capacity Building Training Event is a two-part online training designed to deepen participants' understanding of bias in AI-driven recruitment systems and equip them with tools to develop fair and transparent AI solutions. Through expert-led presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on exercises, attendees will explore the psychological, sociotechnical, and regulatory dimensions of bias while applying Value Sensitive Design (VSD) principles to AI systems.

This training is ideal for:

  • AI researchers, developers, and data scientists
  • HR professionals and recruitment platform designers
  • Policymakers and legal experts in AI governance
  • Ethicists and social scientists interested in AI fairness
  • Anyone keen to understand and mitigate bias in AI systems

Event Structure

Session 1: Understanding Bias and Its Impact on AI (3 hours) - 10:00 AM CEST, 15th April 2025

  • Introduction & Icebreaker
  • What is Bias? Psychological and sociological foundations, unconscious bias, self-reflection exercise
  • AI and Fairness: Algorithmic discrimination, hiring bias, automation bias, case studies
  • Policy & Legal Frameworks: AI Act, GDPR, anti-discrimination laws, ethical principles

Session 2: Designing Fair AI Systems (3 hours) - 10:00 AM CEST, 16th April 2025

  • Applying Fairness Approaches: Critical review of fairness metrics, Case-Based Reasoning (CBR)
  • Hands-on Design Challenge: Participants collaborate to create a prototype ranking tool using Value Sensitive Design (VSD) principles
  • Discussion & Wrap-up
