The SHORE Project and Crowdhelix will celebrate the launch of its Mission Oceans and Waters Helix by hosting a free online webinar showcasing the funding sources to promote ocean literacy.

Key speakers include; Lisa Simone de Grunt, World Ocean Council, Director of Programmes, and Uros Novak, Coordinator of the project REMEDIES, and BioApp platform, and research Group Lead at the National Institute of Chemistry. Gennadi Lessin will also present funding opportunities from the Network of European Blue Schools.

Lisa Simone de Grunt will provide an overview of the concepts behind ocean literacy while Uros Novak will highlight the opportunities provided by Mission Ocean initiatives and describe the best practices associated with funding applications. Gennadi Lessin will also be presenting funding opportunities from the Network of European Blue Schools.

Their expertise aligns with the ambition of Crowdhelix’s Mission Oceans and Waters Helix, which seeks to become an international open innovation platform bringing together experts from academia, education, industry, and civil society. Its goal is to enhance the health and sustainability of our oceans and waters by increasing the awareness of ocean literacy and fostering knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation.

Participants will hear from leading experts involved in transformative projects, including the SHORE project, which empowers students as agents of change for ocean literacy, alongside other notable initiatives contributing to sustainability in the blue economy.

Uroš Novak

Leader of the research group for Bioplastics, Biocomposites, and Zero-waste technologies @ National Institute of Chemistry

Uroš is an wxperienced researcher with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. He is the leader of the research group for Bioplastics, Biocomposites, and Zero-waste technologies at the Department of Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering at the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, with 12 employees
Uroš is the author of 50+ scientific articles (1800+ citations) and was a speaker at more than 200 events. He is passionate about transforming science into practical solutions. Finalist of the EU social innovation challenge in 2019, he lead to the creation of the 123zero start-up. He is the co-founder of two start-ups, the director of an non-profit NGO, as well as mentor for start-ups.
Uroš is the coordinator and participnat in 10+ EU project. Total value of EU fundings acquired at Kemijski Inštitut around 3 million €. The total value of all projects is above 45 million €.
He is an external expert for the EU Commission for Materials Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Blue Economy, and New Business Opportunities.
He is also co-owner of a family vinery and farm producing quality wines under the brand VINOVAK.

Lisa Simone de Grunt

Director of Programmes @ World Ocean Council

Lisa serves as the Programmes Director at the WOC, bringing extensive expertise in project management, specializing in the Blue Economy, Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), sustainable development, ocean governance, and environmental matters. Her experience includes successful leadership of many international and interdisciplinary teams, adept management of diverse projects, and a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and client relations.

Gennadi Lessin

Marine Systems Modeller @ Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Representative of ProBleu Project

Gennadi Lessin is a Senior Marine Systems Modeller at Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) with over 20 years of experience developing advanced tools to deepen our understanding of oceans and their response to human activities. His career bridges research and education, having taught across all levels - from explaining fundamentals of natural science to primary school children to designing university courses on aquatic ecosystem modelling.
Driven by a profound belief that knowledge creates change, Gennadi is deeply committed to advancing Ocean and Water Literacy. He currently leads a workpackage in the ProBleu project, developing an innovative online Catalogue of Teaching Aids—a growing community resource of educational materials. His work at the intersection of ocean science and education has evolved from professional expertise into a personal mission: inspiring future generations to become passionate stewards of our waters and oceans.

Paul Mckenna

Head of Membership Operations @ Crowdhelix

Paul McKenna is Head of Membership Operations at Crowdhelix - a UK and Ireland-based open Innovation platform that forges links between an international network of excellent researchers and innovating companies so that they can plan, deliver, and exploit pioneering collaborative projects and value chains. Paul's main focus at Crowdhelix is supporting member organisations in facilitating global engagement with organisations from across industry and academia looking to participate in open-innovation projects and collaborative partnerships.Prior to his role at Crowdhelix, Paul spent 18 years working as a Departmental Manager at University College London (UCL)'s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, managing operations, finances and leading the Professional Services Team for the department
