The progress of Research Management as a profession in Europe
01/04/2026
About
Across Europe, the research management profession is undergoing a transformative period of growth, driven by deep collaboration and the alignment of national and international initiatives. This session takes a system-wide, macro-level view, looking at the bigger picture of how research management is evolving across Europe. It will show how Horizon Europe projects such as RM Roadmap and RM Comp are weaving together a more connected and capable professional community.

By stepping back from individual activities, the session will explore the powerful synergies emerging through the Research Management (RM) ERA Action. The discussion will highlight how European, national, and institutional efforts are converging to professionalise the field and build long-term capacity. Participants will gain a strategic view of how these moving parts relate to one another and where they are collectively taking the European R&I ecosystem.

A robust, well-integrated research management profession is a strategic enabler for a more resilient Europe. By fostering these macro-level connections, we ensure a research system that is not only agile enough to meet today’s demands but also prepared to sustain the momentum of future innovation.
