Gotelenne Piaton is Head of the Research & Innovation Support Unit (RISU) at the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), where she provides strategic leadership for research governance, funding, and innovation support.

She has played a key role in
guiding CMMI through the full lifecycle of the EU-funded CMMI – MaRITeC-X Teaming project (Grant Agreement No. 857586) and in consolidating the institutional structures and practices established through this transformative initiative.

She oversees a diverse portfolio of around 40 EU-funded and nationally funded marine

align institutional priorities with European and international funding frameworks, enhance proposal quality and delivery performance, and reinforce CMMI’s position as a credible research partner.

In addition to her institutional leadership role, she is the coordinator of three EU funded Horizon Europe Twinning projects, AXOLOTL (Grant Agreement No. 101158669), LORELEI-X (Grant Agreement No. 101159489) and PUREEF-Y (Grant Agreement No.101158830), as well as project coordinator of “MEDCONNECT  Mediterranean Lighthouse Connectivity Platform for Scaling Up Solutions and Regional Partnerships”, a Mission Lighthouse Coordination and Support Action (CSA) selected for funding under the Mission “Restore Our Oceans and Waters by 2030”.

These roles reflect her strong experience in coordinating complex EU-funded
collaborative projects and supporting partnerships that address key marine and maritime sustainability challenges.

As Head of RISU, she oversees strategic support across the full research lifecycle,
combining delivery discipline with a strong emphasis on transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. She is particularly engaged in advancing organisational maturity and collaborative cultures, while maintaining an “H2H” (human-to-human) approach grounded in trust and clarity.
